DESCRIPTION

In "Miscellanies," no 829 concerning merit, Edwards notes that Arminians maintain that one is not justified by their own merit, yet they accept that one's virtue and obedience is looked upon as some moral goodness of their person, which means that they are, to some degree, justified by their own worthiness. This scheme does not include the merit of Christ as a divine person, however, it does imply the highest possible kind of merit or worthiness of a creature.
