This end is obtained by Christ's incarnation, viz. that the saints may see God with their bodily eyes as well as by an intellectual view. They may see him in both ways of seeing which their natures, being body and spirit, are capable of; they may see him as they see one another, which shall not only be spiritually but outwardly. The saints in heaven will have two sorts of sight, intellectual and corporeal; it is the will of God that he himself, or a divine person, should be the principal entertainment of both those kinds of sight. Thus God saw it meet that it should be, and therefore assumed a body that appears with that transcendent visible majesty, glory and beauty, that is exceeding expressive of the divine greatness, holiness and grace. This is a much more perfect and real way of seeing God with bodily eyes, than to behold some glorious preternatural representation, as God sometimes appeared under [under] the old testament. Job comforted himself, that he should see God with his bodily eyes. - WJE 13:501–02
