DESCRIPTION

I do believe that it is so ordered, that such an extraordinary degree of heat should be necessary in order to refine metals, that it might represent the exceeding fierceness of God’s wrath and the extremity of the sufferings by which the dross of the world is consumed and the saints (who are the gold) are saved. As the metal is delivered from its ore and dross by the heat of the furnace, so the saints are saved from their sins by their suffering, in their Head, Jesus Christ, the due wrath of God. - WJE 11:58–59
